Dr. Letitia Morgan, unable to convince a distraught husband to allow her to
attend his wife's difficult labor, is grief-stricken to hear that the mother and
baby both perished. Letty realizes that Philadelphia society will not accept her
as a practicing physician. She discovers a letter from the town of Hartville,
Colorado that states the town is looking for a new doctor to treat women and
children. She applies for the position and is accepted.
Eric Wagner, whose wife had died in childbirth two years earlier, owns the local
newspaper and is the person who sent the letter. The local silver mine has
attracted so many new people to Hartville that Letty's success seems assured.
Add to this story the characters of the girls who work in the local bordello,
the wayward children of the town drunk, and the townspeople who are enraged by a
young doctor who socializes with undesirables, and you have a book that tugs at
the heartstrings.
I found LIGHT OF MY HEART to be very well written; the characters seem to leap
off the pages. Young historical romantics will find this book to their liking.

SONG OF MY SOUL is the second book in the Silver Hills Trilogy. LIGHT OF
MY HEART launched the series and was reviewed by Roundtable Reviews in February.
Phoebe Williams is a young widow who is managing the general store in
Hartsville, Colorado. Phoebe's late husband, John Hart, had been the local
preacher. Phoebe's job at the general store is all she has left.
When Adrian Gamble, the new owner of both the general store and the Heart of
Silver mine, arrives in Hartsville, the townspeople fear the new owner will make
changes that will cost Phoebe her sole livelihood. As Phoebe learns more of
Adrian, she is drawn romantically to him, but Adrian vows never to marry. Can
these two people overcome their fears?
As with LIGHT OF MY HEART, SONG OF MY SOUL is an enthralling book. As I read the
book, I could visualize the surroundings and townspeople. I will be looking for
more of Ginny's books in the future.

SPRING OF MY LOVE is the third book in the Silver Hills Trilogy, the first being
LIGHT OF MY HEART which was reviewed in Roundtable Reviews in February 2004, and
the second being SONG OF MY SOUL which was reviewed in June 2004.
Once again Ginny Aiken has written a great story. The setting is still
Hartville, Colorado in 1894. This time the reader meets Angel Rogers, a
woman whose father has died leaving her with a sheep ranch in a country
dominated by cattle. Having just buried her father, Angel faces
townsfolk’s opinions that a woman has no business running a ranch, and more
particularly, no business denying access to the only viable stream of water in a
dry country. Angel, on the other hand, feels that God will direct her
efforts.
Rancher Jeremy Johnstone owns a neighboring ranch. His cattle needs access
to the water or they could die. He comes to Angel’s assistance when one
of her ewes is having a difficult birth. Jeremy is able to save the ewe
and her twin lambs. Eventually Angel grants him access to the water, but
this angers the other ranchers who take drastic measures.
Realizing that this series is entitled The Silver Hills Trilogy, it would appear
that SPRING OF MY LOVE is the final book. However, I am hooked. I
hope that there will be lots more books added to the series extending the
stories of the people of Hartville.
