DEATH DROP is the fourth installment of the Figure Skating Mystery series by Alina Adams. Soap Opera aficionados undoubtedly know her from her tie-ins which celebrate various successful story lines with her own take on the characters. Prior to devoting her skill to writing, Ms. Adams was a sought after television researcher for skating shows on ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBC.
DEATH DROP once again pits 24/7 Television Network’s figure skating researcher Rebecca “Bex” Levy into a world of mystery that makes even the most demanding skate parents look harmless. The death of a young ice-dancing champion at the ice skating rink causes consternation, but when she is found to have brought her infant son to the rink, confusion reigns. When two men step forward claiming to be the father, rumors fly and suddenly there is no shortage of likely suspects. Yet as Bex digs deeper she finds the merciless competitiveness of the figure skating world threatening to destroy those she aches to hold close, and when the investigation reaches its explosive finale she can only hold on – or duck for cover.
DEATH DROP is an expertly crafted mystery. Alina Adams showcases her television and figure skating experience with aplomb, and her aptitude with the pen is unrivaled. In many ways this book is an eye opener as it demonstrates the little documented underbelly of the figure skating world and its young champions who so often are at the mercy of their coaches and parents for even a semblance of a normal childhood. This is a most compelling read and you will find yourself cheering for the young stars but also shaking your head in disbelief when learning more about their parents. A great book!
